OUR STORY
Hillside Baptist Church is a historic Baptist church in Pembroke, New Hampshire, committed to faithfully following Christ and welcoming new families and individuals to grow alongside us in worship, discipleship, and Gospel ministry.
We gather weekly for Bible-centered worship, expositional preaching, prayer, and fellowship as we seek to make disciples in Pembroke and the surrounding New Hampshire communities.
For more than four decades, the Lord has sustained this church through seasons of growth, transition, and change. Through it all, our desire has remained the same: to honor Christ, love one another, and bear witness to the truth of God’s Word in our community.
Serving God for Over 40 years
Humble Beginnings
Hillside Baptist Church traces its beginnings to January 1982, when a small Bible study began meeting with just two local families. That study soon became a growing congregation known as New Hope, which formally met for the first time in April 1982.
In July 1982, the church dedicated a converted barn in Pembroke, New Hampshire, as New Hope Baptist Church.
As the congregation grew, the church purchased land in 1984, held its constituting service, and formally became Hillside Baptist Church. Ground was broken in April 1985. By God’s grace, and through the faithful work of church members and friends – including renovations, handcrafted furnishings, and stained-glass windows – the building was prepared for worship and ministry. The first service was held in December of that year.
Over the years, Hillside has been blessed by the service of many pastors, deacons, missionaries, and volunteers. Churches and individuals from across the eastern United States assisted with construction projects, Vacation Bible Schools, mission efforts, and seasons of revival – testimonies to the wider body of Christ at work.
The church celebrated significant milestones along the way, including its 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th anniversaries, and has continued to gather faithfully for worship, instruction, and fellowship.
As of today, Hillside Baptist Church has been a Gospel witness in Pembroke and the surrounding New Hampshire communities for over 40 years, by the grace and faithfulness of God.
Our Mission Today
Today, Hillside Baptist Church continues to be a Christ-centered congregation devoted to growing in spiritual maturity, proclaiming the Gospel, and bearing witness to Christ in our community.
We welcome individuals and families to join us in worship, discipleship, and service, seeking to glorify God in all that we do.
Hillside stands apart in its commitment to biblical depth, intentional discipleship, and faithful Gospel witness. We aim to equip believers to grow in Christlikeness, engage Scripture thoughtfully, and serve our neighbors faithfully — offering a spiritual home for those who desire meaningful growth in their faith.
Our mission is to:
Nurture spiritual growth through expositional preaching, teaching, and discipleship, helping believers mature in Christlikeness
Carry out the Great Commission by proclaiming the Gospel locally and beyond, and by equipping members to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God
Be a light upon the hill in Pembroke and the surrounding communities, demonstrating Christ’s love and truth through word and deed
Serve our neighbors in practical ministry, reflecting God’s compassion and mercy in tangible ways
Strengthen the church family through fellowship, prayer, mentoring, and mutual encouragement
We invite all who desire to grow in their walk with Christ, learn to serve faithfully, and bear witness to the Gospel, to join us in worship, study, and ministry.
Our Leadership
Hillside Baptist Church is led by Pastors/Elders who seek to shepherd God’s people with humility, conviction, and a commitment to God’s Word. Following the biblical example described in Acts 6:4 and outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, they devote themselves to teaching, prayer, and guiding the congregation.
We are thankful for the many men who have faithfully served this church over the years, and we trust God to continue leading and sustaining His people in the years ahead. Our current Pastors/Elders live locally in Pembroke and the surrounding communities, and they walk alongside the congregation as mentors, teachers, and fellow followers of Christ. They are dedicated to helping individuals and families grow in their faith, understand God’s Word, and live out the Gospel in daily life.

You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
